If you’ve been on Instagram, Facebook or Google today, you are well aware of the fact that it is International Women’s Day. First celebrated in the early 1900s, this globally recognized holiday serves as a reminder of who came before us, a call to action for those in the present day, and an opportunity to make the path easier for future generations. At By Grace, we strive to continuously enhance the lives of women. We believe that education and employment are the beginnings to a brighter, more hopeful future for everyone.
This day was originally intended to help countries around the world achieve gender equality, and we still very much need the reminder. Unfortunately, 100 years after establishing this day of awareness, a significant pay gap between men and women remains. There are still unequal percentages of women in both politics and business. There is a greater amount of violence against women, a lesser number of women educated than men, and a lower priority placed on women’s health. Let this day serve as a reminder that although we are making progress, there is much work to be done. As UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon so eloquently stated, “Let us devote solid funding, courageous advocacy and unbending political will to achieving gender equality around the world. There is no greater investment in our common future.”
So here’s to you, to the women who invested in you, and to the women you will empower. Happy International Women’s Day.
Until next time,
Emily and Kelsey
